Paying it forward is incredibly rewarding and there are so many ways we can make changes in our communities and the world through small consistent actions. Here are some ways you can give back this summer.
Start At Home
We often assume that people close to us can take care of themselves. Sometimes the people closest to us could use a helping hand from time to time. Make time to see if you can be of help to the people closest to you.
Find A Cause You Care About
Finding a cause you care about means you will really want to get involved because it’s close to your heart. Find out the ways you can give back by helping out, donating time, money or skills.
Volunteer In Your Community
Volunteering in your local community is probably one of the best ways to give back. Whether it’s giving an hour or two to sort through clothing at your local thrift store, or visiting senior citizens, take some time to figure out how you could help. There are so many ways you can make a difference in your community.
Donating your old clothing is a win-win! You get more space in your closet for the things you love and you’re helping out those in need.
Links Worth Clicking
There are many sites that donate to charity and don’t require you to do anything more than a few clicks. GoodSearch is a philanthropic search engine that donates advertising revenue. No matter what the cause, all you have to do is type in the name of the organization you want to support. The site’s GoodShop tool also allows you to donate some of the profit from your online purchases to the charity of your choice. A great excuse to shop!
Getting sponsored to run a marathon for a cause you care about is a great way to work on your fitness and give back. You can also use the app Charity Miles to maximise your fundraising efforts. The app sends money to a charity of your choosing for each mile that you walk, hike, run, or cycle. Simply download the app for your Android or iOS device, select a charity, and then perform your exercise as you normally would.
Be More Conscious Of Where You Spend Your Money
There are lots of stores and brands that donate part of their profits to good causes. Take some time to see which companies give back.
Become a Mentor
Most schools have a mentor program where you can help by tutoring others. This can be really rewarding. You can benefit by increasing your own knowledge!
Cook For Those In Need
Many communities have places where food for the needy is distributed. If you enjoy cooking you can volunteer your time to cook food for distribution. Alternatively you could hold a bake sale in aid of a good cause.
Share Your Skills
Maybe you’re great at doing something very specific. Give back by sharing these skills in your community. If you have a strong professional skill-set in a particular field, CatchAFire.org can help you match your skills with volunteering opportunities.
