Social media is a huge part of our world today; there’s almost no avoiding it. Social media sites may get a bad reputation sometimes, but they can be used in so many positive ways. What we post and how we use these sites is up to us, so if we all focus on what they are good for, rather than what they’re not good for, we may start to trust and enjoy them more!
Social media is a great tool to use for networking. We can connect with people who we wouldn't have been able to connect with otherwise. With sites such as LinkedIn, you can connect with people who share similar job interests, as well as search for jobs, and get information on a company, with just a few clicks. Facebook can also be great for networking. When using Facebook, it’s important to ensure that your personal feed is filled with positive content that your employers would want to see!
Spreading Positive Messages
The great thing about social media is that we have total control over what we post on our page. We may not have total control over what we see from other users, but we can be ones who share those positive messages with our followers! It may be an uplifting status update on Monday morning, a cute video of puppies running around, or a sweet comment on a friend’s post. Try to fill your social media profile with posts you would want to see from others. You never know who may need a little pick-me-up.
Connecting With Old Friends
Similar to networking, social media gives us a chance to reconnect with friends who we wouldn’t have had a chance to talk to without these sites. As life goes on, friends move away and do different things, but social media allows us to keep up with what everyone is doing. It’s a great way to stay in the loop with our old friends that we may have had no connection with otherwise.
Social media can be used in so many positive ways; how we use it is all up to us. Be the change in someone's feed, and post something positive this week!
