Chocolates, V-Day cards, and flowers are symbolic of romance on such a special day. For years, we have continued to have the same viewpoint about Valentine’s Day: it has become quite overrated. It has become a holiday that only blackmails you with memes for being “single.” It is a holiday that has everyone scrolling through Facebook and seeing that same post stating, “why celebrate Valentine's Day when you have no one?” All of the roses and chocolates truffles in the world should not demonstrate that you are loved just because you have a significant other. We must develop a new mentality for this new era- the mentality of sharing love in a whole new way. We must lose the mentality that we need a man or women to prove that we have experienced what “love” is. A big key to the value of life is love. As RuPaul once said, “if you can’t love yourself, how you gonna love somebody else?” Valentine’s day should be defined as a day to simply celebrate the meaning of LOVE.

Celebrate it by pampering yourself. For instance, you can go to a spa, go have lunch at your favorite restaurant with your best friend, or even have a relaxing day at home and spend it with your family watching home videos. It could even be something as simple as giving your dog or cat their favorite treat. No matter what your plan is on this special day, it should not be defined as a day that have to share with your significant other. Celebrate it by doing something that makes you happy as a person, and you can share those activities with the people you love. Express yourself in every way you can think of and just enjoy the celebration of love. It is a celebration that we can all be part of; it is a feeling that is beautiful to feel, it is an emotion that every single one of us has felt over and over again. Make this Valentine’s Day different than last year in the most special way possible.
