Valentine’s Day bounds us into thinking we need to spend the day with our significant others and spouses, but really, the day is about love – all forms of love. Whether it is about being in love with a significant other or spreading the love to your friends and family, take the day to love yourself and your close gal pals. Turn Valentine’s Day into Galentine’s Day by either staying in and watching a movie while sipping some hot cocoa or going shopping after grabbing lunch. No matter how you decide to celebrate, here are ways to host the perfect Galentine’s Day.

Chick flick movie marathon
Gather your gals for a movie marathon filled with sappy romance and your favorite actors and actresses. Whether it is a daytime hangout session or an evening sleepover, grab some snacks and choose a handful of new and modern chick flicks, such as To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before or re-watch classics like A Cinderella Story or Mean Girls. You can rent movies at a local Redbox, purchase or rent through Amazon Prime, or select ones available on Netflix.
Bake sweet treats
Invite your friends for a baking session that includes sweets such as chocolate. Have each of your friends come up with yummy recipes and ideas that you can bake and decorate. Each person can pitch in for her share of supplies and ingredients. With an assortment of desserts, everyone can satisfy her sweet tooth and indulge in special Valentine’s Day treats. If there is too much prepared, then find a local food bank or visit a shelter to donate the extras.
Why not celebrate Galentine’s Day with self-love and care? Grab your friends and give each other manicures and pedicures or head to your favorite nail salon. In addition, try out a new facial or massage session, complete with the smell of essential oils to relax and rejuvenate your mind and body. There is nothing like spending the day with your gals getting pampered.
DIY arts and crafts
If there is a Pinterest project you have been meaning to try out, then get together with your friends and host a DIY arts and crafts session. Search through Pinterest for inspiration on a project that excites you, gather supplies and materials, and begin crafting. Whether you are looking to add to your home décor or collect your latest memories into a scrapbook, Pinterest has endless ideas fit for all imaginations and personalities.
After a brunch or coffee meetup, treat yourself to a day of shopping at your favorite outlet stores and mall. You and your gals can spend the day browsing through the local shops, as well as exploring the area. There is always something new to find! Try splurging on an item you have wanted for a while or catching up with your gals at a trendy restaurant over cocktails and appetizers. A trip to the mall can be paired with any of the activities above.
There are also other ways to host Galentine’s Day depending on the interests and hobbies of you and your friends. Community-oriented? Spend the day with your gals volunteering at an animal shelter. Enjoy exercising? Try out the newest yoga or Zumba class at the gym. Galentine’s Day can be hosted in any fashion, with anyone; after all, the day is about love.
