Seven Steps for a Better Beauty Routine

This time of the year, everyone is having difficulty with their skin and beauty routines. It’s been so cold and dry the last few weeks, our skin is craving moisture now more than ever. While everyone has different types of skin, here are a few different ways for anyone to improve their beauty routine without breaking the bank:

Drink more water

I cannot stress this enough; water changes everything! Beauty starts from the inside out, and if we don’t hydrate, our skin is not going to soak in any products. Personally, my foundation sits on my skin if I don’t drink enough water and ends up cracking halfway through my work day. Even if it feels like you’ve had five or six glasses, drink more. The Mayo Clinic suggests women should drink 11.5 cups of water a day to maintain a healthy level of hydration. Use Coconut Oil

This is something that has become a recent trend in the beauty world, but it really does make a difference. It helps remove makeup and hydrate the skin. With the cold weather, coconut oil brings back the shine to your skin. Fun fact: it also helps minimize dark circles under your eyes, which means less concealer is needed.

 

Less is more

When it comes to beauty, less is always more. Using too many products doesn’t always achieve the desired look. Too much acne solution could dry you out, while too much moisturizer can create oily looking skin. Foundation and concealer are always tricky, because your skin should still look like your skin. The best way to achieve the best beauty routine is to know when enough is enough. A little goes a long way, so start small and see how far it takes you.

 

Get more sleep

Sleep is the basis for a great beauty routine. I naturally have dark circles under my eyes, so catching those extra hours is important. If you have a better sleep schedule, your body not only feels more refreshed, but your skin is less stressed. I also recommend sleeping with a silk pillowcase. It’s better for your skin and keeps hair from getting too frizzy.

 

Use tea tree oil

If acne is a problem for you, one of the best solutions is tea tree oil. Sometimes acne solutions are too strong for our skin. Tea tree is fairly gentle if used in moderation and eliminates redness and irritation. It can dry out skin if you apply too frequently, however, so be careful.

 

Always take off your makeup

This is something I constantly heard my friends saying after a night out in college: “I’m just too tired to take off my makeup.” This is the worst idea ever! Makeup will clog your pores and make your beauty routine so much more complicated in the long run. Please, take off your makeup before bed. Be Confident

The best part of a beauty routine is how you rock it. You can be getting ready for a girls night out or going to the gym without any makeup. A beauty routine is always based around you! As long as you feel like your best self, that is all that matters!
